Iraqi Dinar History

History of the New Iraqi Dinar

The Saddam currency was introduced after the last Gulf war to replace the old currency, which was no longer recognized outside the Kurdish regions.

The new Iraqi dinar was introduced on October 15, 2003.The new dinar has now replaced the older notes that were bearing Saddam Hussein's image. One old dinar is exchanged for one new dinar, and one "Swiss" dinar is exchanged for 150 new dinar.

The Iraqi Dinar Banknote series are available in the denominations of 5000, 10000 & 25000 and were launched by Central Bank of Iraq. Officials of the Coalition Provisional Authority see the new dinar's ascent as a vote of confidence in the economy.

The new dinar is more secure unlike the easy to counterfeit old Saddam Dinar. It has many visible and invisible security features that are virtually impossible to fake. This new and secured dinar will undoubtedly provide a stable foundation for Iraq's future economic growth. CLICK HERE to preview the security features of the new dinar!
